Toronto Botox® for Migraines

Botox® is commonly used for wrinkle reduction as a cosmetic treatments. Botox® is injected into the areas of the face where wrinkles, fine lines and frown lines appear in order to smoothen underlying muscles that cause the wrinkles. What many people don’t know, however, is that Botox® is also approved for and widely used for purely medical purposes to control muscle spasms and treat certain neurological disorders.

Amazingly, Toronto Botox® injections can also treat certain types of migraine headaches. Migraine alleviating side effects of Botox® were discovered by accident when patients treated for cosmetic reasons reported improvements in their migraine headaches following their Botox® treatments. Subsequent medical studies were arranged to test the effects of Botox® injections on patients suffering from Chronic Daily Headaches. Some participants experienced relief for approximately four to six months following their Botox® injection.

The application of Botox® for treatment of migraine headaches is still under investigation. However, some studies have shown drastic and positive results for some participants. In many cases Botox® treatments are preferred over traditional migraine medication because effects of a single injection can last for up to six months thereby eliminating the need and expense of other drugs.

Botox® for treatment of migraines is not currently covered by most insurance companies. However, this will change once Botox® is indicated for treatment of migraines it will also receive approval from insurance companies (Botox® is currently approved for treatment of neuromuscular conditions). An increasing number of dermatologists and neurologists have been using Botox® for treating migraines.

Our experienced Toronto dermatologists use Botox® in Toronto to treat Toronto Botox patients for a variety of cosmetic and medical causes.
