Botox® in Toronto - Hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating that is not triggered by physical activity is classified as hyperhidrosis. This type of Excessive sweating is usually localized to the underarms, palms or soles. Health Canada approved Botox® therapeutic for hyperhidrosis treatments under the arm in September 2001.

Toronto Botox® injections alleviate hyperhidosis by blocking the release of acetylcholine which activates the sweat glands. Botox® is injected just under the skin to block the release of this substance. A special starch / iodine test is often performed to first identify the area of maximum sweat gland activity. Effects of Botox® for hyperhidrosis typically last for 6-8 months. The cost of Botox® is covered by most private insurance plans. Any discomfort is usually minimized by the use of various local anesthetic techniques.
